Frequently Asked Questions

Equilibrium Canine Academy is recently relocated on to two beautiful acers out in Shepherd TX, approximately 50 minuets from downtown Houston. While we primarily service the greater northside of Houston, we are not limited to this area. However, please note that additional costs may be incurred if services are requested outside of our normal service area. We are committed to providing quality training and care for your canine companions and strive to accommodate all our client's needs to the best of our ability. If you have any questions about our service area or specific requests, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly.
As a balanced training practice we utilize a wide variety of different training tools to help dog's learn to the best of their ability. We firmly believe there is not just one way to train a dog or teach a person and as such we make it a point to be experts in working with all training equipment such as slip leashes, and slip collars, martingale collars, Herm springer collars, Starmark collars, remote collars, long lines, muzzles, treats, toys, praise and more. We don't expect all pet parents to know how to use these different types of tools correctly so it's our job to educate and work with you and your pet with the equipment that gives you comfort and peace of mind.
At Equilibrium a correction to a dog are always administered fairly and measured. A correction is the least amount of pressure required to communicate that a behavior is not acceptable. This is done with a quick a precise pop of the leash in the direction the dog is expected to move towards. This pressured is applied to decrease the rate or frequency of a behavior. This falls in to the positive punishment quadrant of operate conditioning.
We do not correct dog's for things they do not understand if a dog is told 'sit' but they have not be properly taught or conditioned as to what sit actually means then a correction would not be a fair response to a dog not assuming the position of sit.
At Equilibrium Canine, we prioritize the well-being and enrichment of every dog in our care. Each day begins with dogs being let out after being kenneled in crash tested antianxiety Ruff land crates overnight for their safety and comfort. Their days start at 7:00am, when they are individually let out for potty time before being served breakfast. Our dogs receive two morning sessions of training and two evening sessions, tailored to their individual needs and goals. In between training, they enjoy different types of enrichment time, ensuring that their physical, mental, and emotional needs are met. This comprehensive daily routine reflects our commitment to providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for all the dogs under our care. In-between training sessions and enrichment time your pet will be crated and rotated out with other dogs from other households if present to ensure safety and comfortability. Most time spent in the kennels are done so napping and recovering from their sessions or enrichment times. Dogs receive late dinners after being given time to relax after their last training sessions. Dinner is given at 8pm to ensure the dogs have time to digest before their last potty break of the day around 9pm.
Because we host our board and train dogs in our own home, Equilibrium Canine Academy is able to accommodate a very wide variety of cases and requests with great care and round the clock focus unlike big industry kennels. Pets are kept in the comfort of a home environment and get to enjoy the acers' of land available to them to roam and work on. This allows for your dog to feel more relaxed and fall into a much more comfortable routine with training. And gives us the opportunity to practice these real world skills in a actual home environment and not a standard training facility.
